Canada Grand Prix Podcast

NEWS STORY
11/06/2015

Quite how the team manages to spend almost thirty minutes talking about the Canadian Grand Prix is a mystery. They probably deserve an award.

Max Noble, Mat Coch and Chris Balfe are back to dissect a race that really never was, as they cite Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa and one curious local (pictured) as the highlights of an unusually uneventful Grand Prix.

Though Lotus scored points with both cars for the first time in living memory, Coch doesn't mind sticking the boot in as he explains why he thinks the team has underperformed. He also asks how much pain Fernando Alonso can endure before hoisting the white flag and calling a day on his Formula One career. Thankfully Balfe and Noble are a little more optimistic on that front.

There's talk of franchise cars and new teams, Martin Brundles's comments about radio communications and the team even shows it's still uber-cool by linking in with current youth trends courtesy of the Rolling Stones.

Yes, for a race that had absolutely nothing, this podcast has a bit of everything, except for Crompo who mysteriously went missing just moments before the show. Conspiracy theories on a postage stamp, if you will.

"Here is an alternate name for the Red Bull Ring if the Brackley Panzers prevail AGAIN: The Same old Bull Ring. Would it liven up the overall show if ART showed up with a 1.6 V6 CHEVY power unit? They already have a 2.2 V6 for Indy Car, and Chevy is in the hybrid car biz. It can't be any stranger than an ICE derived from a fire pump power unit (Coventry Climax). "

"The impression I get is that these cars require good reaction speed but not much else to dive them, kind of like an Xbox or PlayStation game... perhaps they should reintroduce manual gearboxes? with the amount of torque these cars are producing, having a manual gearbox (with a clutch) will really test the drivers skills...? "I agree with Max, Mat, and Chris that the race was a boring, snooze fest, as most of them are. I'm sure you guys are aware that there is nothing but negative comments on the sport from you three. Well I (and a vast majority of F1 fans ) agree with you, right now it's very difficult to be positive.

What I don't understand, is why isn't something being done about this? Why is Jean Todt sitting on his ass and not even commenting ? The guy ought to slapped around a little bit to wake him up.
If he was the CEO of a Co., he'd be out the door in a minute.

Personally, I think ALL the tracks currently having a race should tell Bernie to effoff when the time comes to renew. I think Germany did the right thing, I'd like to see everyone else do the same.

By the way, I listen to the podcasts all the time, and appreciate them. Thanks "
