FIA investigating Alonso crash

NEWS STORY
12/03/2015

The FIA's Charlie Whiting, has confirmed that the sport's governing body is investigating the circumstances surrounding Fernando Alonso's test crash.

Weeks after the Spaniard's crash on the final day of the second pre-season test, we are no nearer to knowing exactly what happened, though almost everyone has an opinion.

Whilst McLaren claims the MP4-30 was hit by a gust of wind, many believe there is more to the accident, a situation not helped by the Woking outfit's subsequent contradictory comments regarding the driver.

As speculation continues, speculation that has led to some drivers expressing concern at the safety of the McLaren-Honda package, Charlie Whiting has confirmed that the FIA is looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We are working with McLaren and our medical department is still looking at all the information we can find," he told reporters in Melbourne ahead of this weekend's season opener. "We are still talking to McLaren about anything mechanical. Our medical department is talking to people who treated him in hospital and that is really all I can say on that."

"If they canned green technology due to safety issues, shouldn't racing itself have been banned decades ago? Surely multiple drivers dying in gasoline fires would have proven racing with internal combustion engines to be entirely too dangerous. "

"Providing Alonso hasn't suffered any permanent damage, I would laugh like hell if it was revealed to be an electrical KERS related issue that caused his crash..................go green !! We will know the truth, or will it be an inconvenient truth ?

Then all that " green " garbage could be $hitcanned because of safety issues and F1 could go back to being pure race cars."
