Alonso: Rumours create tension and stress

NEWS STORY

As he denies looking to leave Ferrari, Fernando Alonso admits to being tired of the endless speculation.

In his fifth season with Ferrari, and facing the prospect of not winning a single race for the first time since 2009, the Spaniard is the subject of continued speculation.

Whilst he is contracted to Ferrari until the end of 2016 there is talk of clauses in his contract that could see him move elsewhere long before then.

Only last week, the man who gave him his F1 debut, Gian Carlo Minardi, tipped the Spaniard to return to McLaren, though others believe he could head to Red Bull or Mercedes should either team face a (surprise) reshuffle.

Talking to Sky Sports News, Alonso reaffirmed his (foreseeable) future to the Italian team whilst admitting his frustration at the speculation.

"There has been a lot of talk since last summer but from my mouth there never came any interest to leave Ferrari or any words saying l would join another team," he said. "There was a lot of speculation, which is not disturbing but it created a little bit of tension and stress.

"But you also feel happy and proud that the best teams have an interest in you and they say so publically," he continued, adding a little fuel to the speculation. "It's not my intention at the moment to move, I want to win here and finish the job that we start some years ago. We will see what the future brings."

Asked about progress under new team boss Marco Mattiacci, who replaced Stefano Domenicali in April, he said: "He is trying to change many things. The good and bad thing about him is that he does not know much about Formula One. That is negative when you need to change very precise areas of the car and some things that are weak compared to our competitors. But it's a good thing because he starts from fresh with fresh ideas."
