Scuderia Ferrari HP completed a productive first day of track action at the Italian Grand Prix, working through its planned programme across the two free practice sessions.

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton used all three tyre compounds made available by Pirelli, gathering useful data both over a single lap in preparation for qualifying and over longer runs with Sunday's race in mind. At the wheel of the SF-26s featuring the special livery celebrating Michael Schumacher's legacy, Charles topped the timesheet in FP1, with Lewis second, while in the second session the Monegasque was second fastest and his team-mate fifth.

In the first session of the weekend, Charles and Lewis started on Hard tyres. Around the halfway point, the session was red flagged after Colton Herta's Cadillac stopped at the side of the track. Once running resumed, both Ferrari drivers switched to the Medium compound, on which they set their best times of the session. Charles stopped the clocks in 1'23"008 to go fastest, with Lewis second on a 1'23"181. In the final part of the session, both drivers completed sequences of consecutive laps to gather further data. Charles completed 29 laps and Lewis 26, for a team total of 55.

In the second session, both SF-26s started on the Medium compound and around halfway through the session, both drivers switched to Soft tyres for their qualifying simulations. Leclerc set a best time of 1'22"679, which put him second fastest, while Hamilton recorded a 1'23"016 to finish fifth. For the final part of the session, both drivers stayed on the Soft compound to complete longer runs in preparation for the race. Charles and Lewis each completed 29 laps, bringing the team's total for the session to 58 and its overall tally for the day to 113 laps.

Charles Leclerc: It's always exciting to be back in Monza, a very special place for us as a team and for all our tifosi. There's still some work ahead of us as our competitors look strong, but so far, the feeling with the car was solid. We know our weaknesses and we will focus on those, giving everything to bring home the best result on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton: It was a bit of a mixed session with some good learnings to take away. The updated power unit is a step in the right direction and I'm really grateful to everyone back at the factory for all the work that has gone into it. We made some changes through the day and there are positive things to take from the sessions, but it was still difficult to get the most out of the car and put a complete lap together. We need to understand some areas better, so we'll be going through the data tonight and see what we can do to put the car in a better window for tomorrow and ensure we're in the best possible position for qualifying.
