Niki Lauda is to be presented with the 2013 Bernie Ecclestone Award this weekend at Monza, scene of his dramatic comeback following his near-fatal crash in 1976.

Brembo Chairman, Alberto Bombassei, and Bernie Ecclestone will present the award to Lauda, now non-executive Chairman of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, for his contribution to the sport in terms of his "legendary races and his sporting and entrepreneurial capabilities".

Three-time champion in 1975, 1977 and 1984, Lauda competed in 177 races, achieving 25 wins, 54 podiums, 24 pole positions. After retiring from racing, and before his commitment with the Mercedes team, he has filled various roles in motorsport including team consultant, television commentator, writer and journalist.

The 'Bernie Ecclestone Award by Brembo' was born in 2011 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian Company. On that occasion, Bombassei presented Ecclestone with a braking system personalized with the colour of the Italian flag. In 2012 the award was presented to Luca di Montezemolo.

According to Brembo, "this artistic and symbolic trophy aims to reward the sporting, moral, technical and entrepreneurial merits of personalities who are distinguished in racing world, reaching excellent results and contributing to the growth of Formula One."
