Traffic stalls Button's charge

NEWS STORY

After a weekend which promised so much, Jenson Button was left somewhat disappointed after finishing sixth in today's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Button had been in buoyant mood earlier in the weekend, optimistic about his chances. Early on today his prospects looked good, running third with the leaders in sight, though he was forced to pit earlier than anticipated as his rear tyres began to fade.

He struggled with high wear during the first stint, forcing him to begin saving his tyres early. From there a two-stop race didn't seem possible, according to McLaren's Sporting Director Sam Michael.

However Button's race ultimately began to fall apart because of the early stop. Rejoining in traffic and despite a significant car advantage, he was unable to fight his way back to the front.

"I think they were trying to jump the cars in front," Button explained. Emerging from the pits behind Bruno Senna the Englishman's race was compromised.

"That was it," he lamented. "The traffic I was in was going slower than the cars I was racing before. Then we did that again later on in the race."
