Work on Silverstone’s new pit, paddock and conference complex, which will be in use at the 2011 British Grand Prix, is firmly on schedule as development around the Northamptonshire circuit continues at a pace.

The new facility, which includes new garages, a race control building, flexible conference and exhibition space, a new podium, media centre, hospitality and VIP spectator zones, is intended to cement Silverstone’s position as a premier racing destination, providing world class facilities,

Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, has confirmed that work on the new Complex is due for completion in May 2011, prior to the Grand Prix on July 10.

"We are on schedule to meet our self-imposed completion date of May, 2011," said Phillips. "This pioneering development, and the redevelopment of Silverstone at large, will provide a world-class facility where all forms of motor sport can be celebrated in style – by competitors and spectators alike. As the iconic building on the circuit, the new Pit, Paddock and Conference Complex will reaffirm Silverstone’s position as a premier racing destination and our status as a global leader."

Facts and stats relating to the new complex:

The Pit and Paddock building measures 350 metres in length

The build programme, from start to finish, will be 54 weeks (end of April 2010, to Spring of 2011)

Up to 110 personnel work on site at any one time

110,000 man hours have been worked on the new complex to date. Total man hours is expected to reach 260,000

The tallest part of the building measures 26 metres (above ground)

The height of the 'Fin' measures 30 metres (above ground)

The roof area spans 9,700 square metres

3,450 cubic metres of concrete will be used in and around the building, equating to 575 lorry loads

1,200 tonnes of steel will be erected in and around the building

Approximate floor space for 'functional areas': 41 garages covering 6,200 square metres; Media Centre covers 2,780 square metres; Spectator and hospitality zones cover 8,200 square metres; Race Control covers 950 square metres

8,000 tonnes of tarmac will be used on site
