WMSC meets today

NEWS STORY
23/06/2010

The World Motor Sport Council meets in Geneva today with a number of major decisions hopefully to be agreed upon.

One of the most important items on the agenda is a decision as to who will supply tyres in 2011 and beyond. While the teams - and Bernie Ecclestone - have their views, as Jean Todt made clear recently it is the FIA which will have the final say on the matter.

Despite claims that the appointment of Pirelli is a formality, it is unclear whether a decision will actually be made today - even though the 2010 season is rapidly nearing the halfway mark and the design of 2011 cars is already well underway.

While the sport basks in the glory of a highly entertaining Canadian GP - thanks largely, ironically, to the tyres supplied in Montreal - the WMSC will consider a number of proposals put forward by the various working groups including the banning of F-ducts, the re-introduction of KERS and the introduction of moveable rear wings.

Furthermore, with an eye on Michael Schumacher's move on the final lap of the Monaco GP, Safety Car procedures are also up for discussion.

While the WMSC will also no doubt consider what sanction it will impose on the still-born American outfit, USF1, it is understood that approval will be given to Sauber to drop BMW from its team name.
