Monza handed new four-year deal

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza has been given a four-year extension to its current contract following talks between the historic circuit's management and Bernie Ecclestone.

With Ecclestone recently confirming to Pitpass business editor Chris Sylt that Rome is to host a round of the Formula One World Championship in 2013, there had been concern that the legendary Monza track, which first hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1922, might be dropped from the schedule.

However, the Englishman has signed a four-year extension to the current contract with the circuit, thereby guaranteeing its place on the calendar until 2016.

Confirming the deal, Claudio Vigano, head of SIAS, the company that controls the legendary circuit, told reporters: "The Italian Grand Prix will be at Monza until 2016. The extension of the contract has been signed."

Monza has hosted all but one Italian Grand Prix since the inception of the Formula One World Championship in 1950.
