Kubica stays put

Robert Kubica will remain with Renault for 2010 despite fears that the recent buy-out of the French team by Luxembourg investment firm Genii Capital might lead to the Pole seeking an alternative seat.

In the wake of the December deal which saw Genii Capital buy a 75 percent stake in the French outfit it was revealed that Kubica had a clause in his contract which would allow him to walk away from the team should it not be wholly owned by the Renault car company.

However, talking to BBC Sport, the Pole's manager, Daniel Morelli, has confirmed that the 2008 Canadian GP winner will honour his contract.

"We are going in the right direction," said Morelli. "There were no doubts, really, but it was very important we understood who were in the key roles in the team and of course also the budget, it is fundamental you have that for the updates to the car."

Morelli also denied reports that following the buy-out of the team Kubica had pushed for a better pay deal.

"It is totally untrue," he said. "It is not in our interests to take advantage. We want the money for the team. Robert wants a performing car. It's useless if the driver gets more money if you have a weak car and lose (performance) bonuses. It's better to score points and make podiums than to earn more money.
