Formula One will make its first visit to the all-new Madring this week, the new home of the Spanish Grand Prix.

Fresh from a rollercoaster weekend in Monza, BWT Alpine Formula One Team is preparing to compete at a circuit that promises to be just that, and more, as the team arrives at the Madring for the first time. The 22-turn, 5.4km course, purpose built for the race, is set to be an exciting new challenge for every team on the grid as it hosts its first event, and the first race in Madrid for over 40 years.

The first and final sector of the lap have a traditional street circuit feel, using public roads surrounding the IFEMA exhibition centre. The free-flowing second sector features the track's standout corner, the aptly named 'La Monumental' [Turn 12]. The turn is a daunting, steeply banked bend, over half a kilometre long and featuring a maximum gradient of 24%, equivalent to 13.5° of banking. The corner has been earmarked as the most impressive on the circuit and will be taken at extremely high speeds.

Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto have prepared extensively on the simulator back at the team's Enstone HQ and are looking forward to experiencing their first impressions on Friday in Free Practice 1.

Pierre Gasly: "I think the past week will stick with me for a very long time. I have really been through many different emotions and the real high was taking pole position on Saturday and then converting that into really solid points for the team on Sunday. I am very pleased and proud for everyone at the team and Saturday's achievement has given us all that motivation to push ourselves closer to the front of the field more often in the future. While I look back with great memories from Monza, of course, we have to look ahead to a completely new challenge in Madrid this weekend at a new circuit. Having driven the Madring in the simulator, it looks like it will be a lot of fun at the wheel in real life. It's always interesting for teams and us drivers to learn a new track and we go there with a bit of excitement and a good vibe in the team after what we achieved last weekend. The target for us is to get up to speed as quickly as we can, get the car in a sweet spot, and aim to continue our run of scoring points."

Franco Colapinto: "After some time to reflect on the race weekend in Monza, I think as a team we can be proud of our race weekend. The pace we showed was strong in every session and, even though I am frustrated with my race, we executed a strong recovery to finish in the points. Now, we go to Madrid for the very first time which is incredibly exciting. The circuit looks pretty unique, and it will take a lot of quick learning to get up to speed. Some of the corners are really quite different - the banking at Turn 12 will be fun to drive for real - and it's clear that getting in a rhythm will be key to a successful weekend. I used to live in Madrid so it's a city I know very well, and I've got great memories of my time here. It's going to feel very special for me to race this track and, I must say, Formula One has done really well to prepare the event. We demonstrated last time out that our upgraded package has got good pace, and we have even more to learn about it, so our target in Madrid is to exploit this and once again finish in the points.
