Just like the old days

NEWS STORY
10/02/2009

Fans of a certain age will fondly remember the days when their heroes were not restricted by their contracts and sponsorship commitments merely to Formula One.

When drivers weren't contesting Formula One Grands Prix it was not unusual to see them in action in F2, SportsCars, Can-Am, indeed whatever took their fancy, just as long as they could go racing every weekend.

Mark Webber's accident whilst taking part in a charity bike ride in November is one example of why F1 teams are loathe to see their drivers involved in extra curricular sporting activities these days, while clashes in terms of sponsorship commitments are another. This means that we only get to see our heroes racing on seventeen or eighteen weekends each year.

Therefore it is great news to see that Toro Rosso's Sebastien Bourdais will contest the Le Mans 24-hour race this year and also the forthcoming Sebring 12-hours.

The Frenchman has been confirmed for both events by Peugeot, for whom he will drive diesel-powered 908 HDi prototype, partnered by Stephane Sarrazin and Franck Montagny.
