At its traditional media Christmas luncheon, senior members of Ferrari's technical team spoke about the challenge that is KERS, an area where some feel the Italian outfit might lose out to its rivals next season.

"It's a great challenge," said Technical Director Aldo Costa (right), who admitted that the cost of development has "exceeded expectations."

As far as the engine and the electronics are concerned costs went down, but with the KERS we spent much more than we had planned," added Engine and Electronics Director Gilles Simon.

"We're working a lot on the energy recovery system," he admitted. "We're a bit behind on our schedule, but our goal is to be ready with a working KERS for the first race. Meanwhile we're also appraising the car without KERS."
