Renault reiterates commitment to FOTA

NEWS STORY
10/12/2008

Following reports that it is considering accepting the FIA's proposal of a (Cosworth) customer engine, a move which would surely compromise the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA), Renault has this morning (Wednesday) issued the following:

"Following speculation that appeared this morning in the Italian press, the ING Renault F1 Team would like to state that the positions of the Team and Renault are in complete accordance to those of the FOTA.

We would like to point out that neither Mr. Briatore nor Renault have spoken to the press regarding this matter before this official press release."

While four teams are though to be considering the customer engine move it is the possibility of a manufacturer making the switch that would surely damage FOTA, especially given the stance of manufacturers such as BMW and Ferrari who have made no secret of their feelings.

Those teams wishing to take advantage of the customer deal have until tomorrow afternoon to do so.
