Team Great Britain unveils new livery

NEWS STORY
09/09/2007

A1 Team GBR unveiled its new look A1GP World Cup of Motorsport contender at the famous Brooklands Circuit in Surrey yesterday, the revised livery being revealed by team drivers Robbie Kerr and Oliver Jarvis as they prepare to launch Great Britain's assault on the 2007/08 A1GP season. In front of 200 guests from the world of sport and entertainment attending an evening of motoring and aviation hosted by one of Britain's most famous charities, The Lords Taverners, A1 Team GBR took centre stage at the 100 year old venue.

In the shadow of the famous Brooklands banking and standing alongside famous British icons from the world of motor sport and aviation, A1 Team GBR's drivers proudly displayed the red, white and blue A1GP car with which they both scored victories last season en-route to a second successive third placed finish for Great Britain in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Guest of Honour Lord Montague of Beaulieu was given a personal explanation of A1GP by the team drivers.

"The new British A1GP car looks fantastic", commented Kerr. "I'm pleased that the Union flag on the rear wing is still incorporated as it was certainly one of my favourite aspects of the livery from the first two seasons. The rest of the new team brand will be unveiled at Zandvoort and will definitely compliment the car livery – the Brits will, without a doubt, be one of the most prominent and eye catching teams in the paddock and on track this season"

"It's fantastic that A1 Team GBR is heading into what is set to be the most competitive A1GP season yet with a new improved look", said Jarvis. "The team realises the importance of brand image to sponsors and has incorporated this into the new design accordingly. I cannot wait to debut the new design at the opening race at Zandvoort at the end of the month".

The team's new livery has been designed by Ian Hutchinson whose most memorable graphic designs include the famous Silk Cut Jaguars which dominated sports car racing in the 1980s, the 7Up Jordan Ford which powered Michael Schumacher to his Formula One debut in 1991 and the highly visible Mild Seven Benetton/Renaults including the 2006 car of reigning World Champion Fernando Alonso. He also designed last year's award winning A1 Team Ireland livery.

"The great thing about A1GP is that the colour schemes are influenced more by national colours than corporate sponsors, but it was a challenge to work with the red, white and blue palette given that other major countries such as France and the USA use the same one. The end result was achieved by coming up with what we call the 'swoosh' which is supposed to reflect a fluttering Union Jack – its about movement and flowing lines, just as with racing car designs."

Tony Clements, Seatholder for A1 Team Great Britain, said; "We are delighted with the new livery, and with Robbie and Oliver pushing as hard as ever and the team highly experienced following two very strong seasons in A1GP, our aim is to win the title. I think our supporters will find the teams new image very appealing, and I believe it will prove attractive to the potential sponsors and commercial partners which we hope will be attracted by a British sporting success story."
