The ING Renault F1 Team has announced the nomination of Bernard Rey, currently Senior Vice President, Renault CEO Office, to the role of President of the Renault F1 Team. Bernard Rey will succeed Alain Dassas (right), who has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Nissan.

President of the Renault F1 Team since 3 April 2006, Alain Dassas presided over the team's second successive double world championship victory last season. His expertise allowed the team to create a stable and viable financial structure for success in the medium- and long-term, reinforcing Renault's commitment to the sport, guaranteeing the team's competitiveness via a major programme of future technology investment and driving the Renault Group's commercial exploitation of the Formula 1 programme.

"My time as President of the Renault F1 Team has been a rich, rewarding experience in personal and professional terms," commented Alain Dassas. "The Renault F1 Team is a world-class group of highly-motivated, competitive individuals and it has been a privilege to take part in the adventure. From a professional point of view, we have achieved the objective set when I assumed this role: to engineer a detailed, long-term commitment to Renault's Formula 1 future. The team is in good health, and well-placed to return to the front of the field next season. I wish them every success and while I look forward to my next challenge within the Renault Nissan Alliance, I will remain one of the team's most loyal supporters."

Bernard Rey currently holds the position of Senior Vice President, Renault CEO Office and earlier in his career, was responsible for Nissan's global motorsport activities. He will assume his role as President of the Renault F1 Team effective 17 September 2007, to ensure a smooth, stable transition as the team prepares for 2008.

"The Renault F1 Team is proof of the Renault Group's ability to excel at the highest level, and I am greatly looking forward to returning to the world of motorsport," commented Bernard Rey. "The team is preparing to return to the highest level next season, and is well-placed to do so in terms of personnel and resources. It is a highly-capable group led by Flavio Briatore, whose abilities are well-known. I look forward to enjoying many future successes together."

Born in 1946, Rey joined Renault in 1969. In 1980, he joined the Purchasing Department and then Vehicle project management Department. In 1998, he was appointed International Purchasing Director for the Group. In 1999, he joined Nissan as Vice President in charge of the Purchasing Strategy Department. On April 2004, he was appointed as Senior Vice President, CEO Office and Nissan motorsport, reporting to Carlos Ghosn. On April 1, 2007, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Renault CEO Office. He is a member of the Renault Management Committee.
