Nurburgring Preview - DPR

NEWS STORY
19/07/2007

David Price Racing (DPR) with drivers, Andy Soucek and Christian Bakkerud will be returning to Germany's tight and challenging Nurburgring circuit for this weekend's European Grand Prix as the GP2 series enters its' second half of the season.

Both drivers have previous experience of racing at the Nurburgring in other race series; Bakkerud visited during his time in the German Formula BMW series, whilst Soucek finished in a solid second place last season driving in the highly competitive Renault World Series championship.

DPR is hoping that the drivers' track knowledge will help the team to be on the pace quickly in the first practice session and aid their preparations for the two races. A disappointing result for both drivers at Silverstone two weeks ago saw two retirements in the feature race and a resulting back row grid position for the sprint race. In this, Soucek crossed the line in 20th place, followed home by Bakkerud in 21st position.

Soucek commented ahead of this weekend's race: "The Nurburgring circuit is challenging and raises a few issues in terms of which way to go with set-ups for the car, but I have previous experience of the circuit. The track does also allow for over- taking opportunities, which will help if we have problems like at Silverstone."

Bakkerud is also looking forward to his next GP2 outing, saying "At Silverstone the car was handling okay, we managed to improve it during the weekend, so hopefully we can continue to improve during the course of the weekend in Germany and get a solid result. The team work hard and we'll all be pulling together as we continue in our mission to improve our standings in the championship tables."

David Price, Team Principal, DPR, adds, "We've had a tough season so far, luck hasn't always been on our side. The result at Silverstone was very disappointing, especially in front of our home crowd, we really wanted to lift the team with some points at the ‘local' track. However we must look forward to the Nurburgring race, let's hope that we have a turn in fortune for the second half of the season and we can come away with a good haul of points."
