Honda has announced the appointment of Jörg Zander to the role of Deputy Technical Director, supporting Senior Technical Director Shuhei Nakamoto.

Jörg, 43, joins Honda from the BMW Sauber F1 Team where he held the position of Chief Designer. He has worked with Honda previously with whom he held the role of Chief Engineer for Mechanical & Transmission from 2002 to 2005. He was then recruited to Williams in the role of Chief Designer, where he enjoyed a successful partnership with Chief Aerodynamicist Loïc Bigois, who has also recently joined Honda in the position of Head of Aerodynamics.

Shuhei Nakamoto, Senior Technical Director of the Honda Racing F1 Team, commented: "I am very pleased that Jörg will return to Honda. I am looking forward to working with him again. This is the latest in a series of key appointments that we have made in order to bolster our team. We have some very talented people at Honda but Formula One is a rapidly changing sport and we need to evolve in order to keep pace. With the steady performance improvements we have made over the past few races and a strengthened technical team, I am sure that the difficulties we have seen in the first half of 2007 are now behind us."

Commenting on his new role, Jörg Zander said: "I am delighted to be returning to Honda and to England, where I know I will feel very much at home again. Honda is a fantastic group of people. It is also a team with enormous potential and the determination to fight hard to achieve its ambitions. I am very excited that I will be a part of that."

Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer of the Honda Racing F1 Team, said: "We are delighted to welcome Jörg back to Honda in the position of Deputy Technical Director. In his role as Chief Engineer for Mechanical & Transmission he played a pivotal role during a period of on-track success for our team. In my opinion Jörg is one of the most creative and energetic engineers in Formula One and I am delighted that he has decided to return home. In his new role with our team Jörg will assist Senior Technical Director Shuhei Nakamoto with technical leadership."
