Ho-Pin Tung (left) has been signed by BCN Competicion for the 2007 season, thus completing this season's grid. BCN Competition has announced that Ho-Pin Tung, the 2006 German F3 Champion, will drive for them in the 2007 season and will become the first Chinese driver ever to race in the GP2 Series.

Ho-Pin, after dominating the German F3 Championship, has been representing China in the A1GP Championship, where he achieved the first podium finish ever for his country. He declared himself extremely happy and motivated.

"I am very happy to have the opportunity to compete with BCN Competition in GP2. I am grateful to my private sponsors, who supported this huge step forward in my career. To get to F1, as every young driver knows, GP2 is the best launching series. And it is my ambition as long as I am a racing driver to become the first ever Chinese Formula 1 driver.

“The first half of the GP2 season will be hard for me, as there is no more pre-season testing. This means I might have a disadvantage compared to all the other drivers, so I will have to learn quickly. But I am confident that in the second part of the season I will meet the expectations and that I will come up with good results".

Enrique Scalabroni commented: "I think for BCN Competición it is important to have a very talented young driver such as Ho-Pin Tung, who has shown his driving capacity in the German F3 Category and even if he arrives in GP2 with no previous experience in the category, I think he will show in a short time who is".

Ho-Pin Tung has enjoyed a success career in motorsport which debuted in Holland back in 1997. From winning karting championships until 1999, Ho-Pin then made the step up to the Dutch Championship ICA, followed by the European Championship ICA, Formula Ford, Formula BMW and latterly Formula 3. He is the 2006 RECARO German Formula 3 Cup Champion, winning seven races, achieving two pole positions and setting three fastest lap times. His teammate at JB Motorsport, Ferdinand Kool, made it a perfect score as he ended the season in second place.
