Red Bull to announce Webber deal?

NEWS STORY
07/08/2006

According to informed sources in Hungary at the weekend, together with comments made by Mark Webber, it is increasingly likely that Red Bull will announce the Australian as one of its 2007 drivers within the next couple of days.

Pitpass first hinted at the possibility of the Australian heading (back) to Milton Keynes at the beginning of July, part of a deal being brokered by Flavio Briatore, which would see the Austrian owned team receive Webber in addition to Renault power-plants.

However, Jean Todt's recent comments that the current engine deal, which sees Red Bull using Ferrari engine, appeared to put a spanner in the works.

That said, money talks, and no doubt a deal is being done whereby, as Pitpass predicted, Toro Rosso will use the Ferrari engines and Red Bull will use Renault units in its new, Adrian Newey designed, car.

As for Heikki Kovalainen joining Webber at Red Bull, this looks less likely in light of the fact that should Michael Schumacher win the title, he will almost certainly retire, thus making the Ferrari seat available for Kimi Raikkonen, while Kovalainen would join Giancarlo Fisichella at Renault.
