Monterrey Preview: Team GB

This weekend A1 Grand Prix will be making its debut in Mexico at the Parque Fundidora circuit in Monterrey. The city of Monterrey is located in North Eastern Mexico and is the second largest and most important urban area after the capital.

The Parque Fundidora circuit has been used as a world class show case on the international FedEx Championship Series, and has hosted a Champ Car World Championship race every year since 2001. Several national series including T4, Pickups, and Formula Renault also use the circuit within their domestic schedules.

The track is 3.386km in length and constitutes 12 turns, and seven potential passing areas. Daunting straights, high and low speed corners, and numerous elevation changes, make the circuit exciting and fast; heralding unpredictable racing.

After its disappointment in Indonesia, A1 Team Great Britain is once again looking to the podium in Mexico, and is hoping to overtake A1 Team Brazil in the series standing. Having scored 68 series points and lying fourth in the standings, GBR driver Robbie Kerr is aware of the challenges ahead, but he is eager to get behind the wheel once more, and adapt to a new circuit.

Robbie Kerr: "We are always looking ahead, and Mexico presents another opportunity for us to be at the front – which is where we should be. I'm looking forward to taking on France and all of the other teams as we once again contend for the podium. With only two points between us and Brazil, the prospect of moving into the top three is certainly an exciting one. We must learn from our experiences in Sentul, but I am confident that we are heading in the right direction. The podium is certainly in sight."

Friday will see Robbie take to the track for the first time, as he prepares for Saturday's qualifying sessions, and Sunday's races. With only three remaining weekends within the inaugural A1 season; Mexico promises to be fraught with high pressure and high risk driving as teams contend for the final points of the series.
