Karthikeyan gives up on 2006 race seat

Narain Karthikeyan appears to have given up all hope of securing an F1 race seat in 2006, as Midland F1 looks certain to confirm Tiago Monteiro as teammate to Christijan Albers.

According to the Indian driver, Midland is simply looking for too much money for its second seat, with the Russian team said to be looking for around £8m ($14m).

"I don't think it's fair to spend that type of money," he told The Indian Express, "particularly when Midland F1 themselves need it for massive expansion and more so developing the car.

"It was coming," he continued, "I knew it all along, but then negotiations were on and so were the hopes.

"We are having talks with some teams," he added, "and over the next few days things should materialise."
