EuroSpeedway Preview: Team Britain

NEWS STORY
06/10/2005

Following the anticlimax of a non-finish in the feature race at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, A1 Team Great Britain driver Robbie Kerr is focused on the second event in the A1 Grand Prix series. The team is currently lying sixth in the standings after the A1 car battery failed while the car was in the lead denying Robbie points. The pressure of the home event has been left behind and the team anticipating another competitive event.

Robbie Kerr: "This circuit's certainly going to be different to Brands Hatch. It's very technical and challenging. There's potential for much bigger gaps in the field. Obviously the result from Brands Hatch was disappointing and I hope that we can show here what we're capable of and the progress that we're making."

Robbie Kerr's lap of Eurospeedway: "From the start finish straight – into the first corner – 90 degree left hander – off camber, I'm guessing about fourth gear – quite quick. Next – slight kink right, braking into a tightening left feeding on the power smoothly then coming into a tight right-left section. Into the right just be patient and then up over the bump then out back onto the banking really round the tight left hander need to be patient getting clean traction and all the way down the power on the straight – flat out coming into a left-right chicane off camber so easy to run off wide and the next corner you've got to set the car up for the following left which is a long 180 degree left hander going uphill so it's a blind apex and a blind exit as well so will be interesting to see how many people run out wide there.

Going down a medium straight downhill coming into a long double right hand bend again can't see the apex until quite late so it's a challenging corner – high speed 5th or 4th gear so that'll be quick as well. Coming back down into 160 deg left hand bend – hard braking area, very bumping under braking so being cautious into a cambered left hand bend – so using the camber to carry as much speed as possible but then it flattens out on the exit so you've got to be cautious there feeding in the power. Short straight with a right hand kink in it then braking hard downhill into 180 degree right.

Turning into the right it then begins to go uphill and then turn into the left hander joining back onto the banking to do the last corner but being careful there feeding on the power smoothly because it's going to dictate your speed all the way down the straight how early you can get on the power and then round the last banked bend back onto the start finish straight where you'll probably be up to 160mph."
