NEWS STORY
03/09/2005

In recent days - remember, Monza has traditionally marked the start of the silly season - reports have appeared, mainly on message boards and forums - that BAR-Honda was willing to pay as much as $90m (£49m) to secure the services of Jenson Button.

To make matters worse, the harbingers of this 'information' report that WilliamsF1 turned the offer down.

Think about that.... $90m... ninety million dollars for a driver yet to win a race.

The issue was put in perspective yesterday by team boss Nick Fry, who has never made any secret of his desire to retain the Englishman.

When asked about the rumours of the mega-bid, he replied: "Newcastle United only had to pay £16 million for Michael Owen."

Quite.
