Grand Prix journalist keeps his word

Scottish journalist, Bob McKenzie, who famously proclaimed that he would run around Silverstone naked should McLaren win a round of the 2004 World Championship, finally honoured that bet on Sunday.

The Scot made the wager following a poor start to the 2004 season by the Woking team.

However, the introduction of a heavily revised car and the added incentive of seeing a member of the media make a fool of himself was enough to spur the Woking team onwards and upwards, and at Spa Francorchamps Kimi Raikkonen took a famous victory.

After many false starts, and a little prompting from McLaren boss Ron Dennis, McKenzie finally fulfilled the bet on Sunday, ahead of the drivers' parade.

Wearing body paint in McLaren's silver and black colours, and a strategically placed sporan, McKenzie was waved from the startline by Dennis.

The Scot, who helped raise thousands of pounds for Tommy's, the Baby Charity, was cheered around the circuit, which took him 36 minutes to complete, even though he took a number of shortcuts.

It's understood that WilliamsF1, having studied McKenzie's speed on the Hangar Straight, is now looking at a third bodywork option, ahead of the German Grand Prix.
