Alonso feeling the pressure?

NEWS STORY
14/06/2005

Race fans watching the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday will have heard Fernando Alonso calling on his team - via radio - to complain about the fact that teammate Giancarlo Fisichella was slower and therefore holding him up.

The Spaniard made repeated requests to his team, however, the issue was resolved when Fisichella retired on lap 36, with a hydraulics problem, only for Alonso to clout the wall a couple of laps later, damaging his rear suspension beyond repair.

Comments the Spaniard has since made to the Spanish media indicate that the youngster is beginning to feel the pressure, as the title race hots up.

"My team's decision was very important for the end of my race," Alonso told as.com. "Giancarlo's car was heavier than mine and that slowed him down and consequently we lost our advantage to
the McLarens.

"I couldn't overtake him," he added, "If I could have got a good advantage at the beginning I wouldn't have to attack at lap 40.

"I had to pay attention to Kimi, to Montoya and to the problems we could have in the car," he continued. "We started with crossed fingers, because we had an engine problem (an oil leak discovered after qualifying). So we should have a good advantage in the beginning and then we could control the race."
