TV: Good news for British F1 fans

NEWS STORY
19/03/2005

As British broadcaster ITV continues to give F1 fans the 'bum's rush', there is at least a little good news for race fans in Britain.

Despite its claim of giving F1 fans the best (read only) coverage of F1 in the UK, the British broadcaster has once opted not to show live coverage of either qualifying session in Malaysia.

Therefore, as in Melbourne, race fans in the UK will have to rely on the internet as event unfold during Sunday's all-important qualifying session.

For those British race fans determined to stay up through the night for the 07:00 race start, there is something else to help you while away the hours.

Channel 4 is showing The Crazies, George A Romero's excellent (19730 horror thriller.

This highly original movie, from the man who made his name making some of the classic zombie movies, has never seemed quite so appropriate.

It focuses on the efforts of the military to contain a manmade virus that hits a small American town following a military plane crash.

The effects of the virus cause victims to go on a wild murderous rampage - hence the title - however, it is when the military arrives that things really get out of hand.

This low-budget classic - many of the actors are inhabitants of the Pennsylvania town in which the movie was shot, while the 'troops' are mostly local high-school students - has never got the attention it so richly deserves, however it can only be a matter of time before it gets a big budget Hollywood makeover.

The Crazies is on Channel 4 from 03:00.

And if anyone thinks that there is some sort of malicious, between the lines, tie-in between a movie featuring normally placid people, going on a murderous rampage, and James Allen and his buddies, you are very wrong, and clearly have nasty, wicked minds. Shame on you.
