Austrian GP: Preview - Red Bull

NEWS STORY
07/07/2022

Max Verstappen: I have a lot of good memories from racing in Austria so I'm really excited to go back. It's a really interesting track with not many corners, it's a lot of fun to drive. The atmosphere is always great, I love seeing the fans in the grandstands and I think people in general just really enjoy the weekend there. Silverstone was a tough race but we look ahead and hopefully we can have a good weekend and really maximise the points available over a Sprint weekend at our home circuit. I expect it to be a good weekend for us as a Team."

Sergio Perez: "Its going to be great to be back in Austria this week. It's one of our home races and you feel that the minute you enter the circuit, the Team get incredible support there. I am looking forward to this weekend massively, I think it's safe to say we'll be the most supported Team and we want to give the fans something back. I'm coming off the back of a very pleasing result at the British GP, I always say never give up, and this was the case at Silverstone. We hadn't had the best weekend up to that point with the car but in the end I managed to get on the podium and we all need to be proud of that. We're set for another battle on track in Austria and I think all the drivers can say we're having a lot of fun racing each other this season."

Stats & Facts

There were 142 laps of racing at the two Red Bull Ring races in 2021, and Max led all of them, starting both from pole position. Therefore, Max became the first and only driver to win at the same racetrack twice in the same year in championship history.

The Red Bull Ring has hosted more F1 racing than any other racetrack in this decade, playing host to its fifth Grand Prix of this decade. In 2020, it became the first venue to ever host two championship races in the same season, soon to be followed by Silverstone and Bahrain, but in 2021 it became the only venue to host two races in two different seasons.

Max scored the maximum points haul in the last sprint weekend at Imola, winning sprint qualifying (8 points), winning the Grand Prix (25 points) and setting the fastest lap (1 point).

Checo finished in P2 at the British Grand Prix despite finding himself in 16th place by the end of lap 7. His second placed finish meant that Oracle Red Bull Racing have scored 12 top-two finishes in the opening ten races of the season.

Max is making his 129th start for the Red Bull Team this weekend, moving level with Mark Webber for the most starts in team history. Max famously won on his debut at the 2016 Spanish GP, becoming the youngest-ever Grand Prix winner at age 18.

Oracle Red Bull Racing have won four out of the last six races held at the Red Bull Ring. The team have scored three 1-2 finishes in the last seven races, as well as a 1-3 around the streets of Monaco.
