Pirelli reveals Hungaroring compounds

NEWS STORY
19/05/2016

Pirelli will take its supersoft, soft and medium compounds to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix in July.

The P Zero White medium, P Zero Yellow soft and P Zero Red supersoft is the same combination used in the opening four rounds, and ahead of the Hungarian event will be seen agan in Azerbaijan.

The medium and doft must be used at some point in the race at the Hungaroring, when each driver will have both sets available and must use at least one of them.

Each driver must also save for Q3 one set of the supersofts. This set will be given back to Pirelli after Q3 for those who qualify in the top 8, but the remaining drivers will keep it for the race – as is the case currently.

The teams are free to choose the remaining 10 sets; making up 13 sets in total for the Hungaroring weekend.

This year's race marks the superrsoft's first appearance here and this is no doubt due to the resurfacing of the track which was carried out as part of an ongoing overhaul aimed at keeping Hungary on the calendar.

Organisers recently agreed a five-year extension to their previous contract with FOM, meaning that F1 remains at the circuit until 2026.

The Hungaroring, which first hosted a Grand Prix in 1986, the first Eastern-bloc country to host F1, though notorious for producing processional racicing has proved increasingly popular with fans, which possibly explains why it is one of the few circuits to report a profit in recent years.
