Arrivabene expecting "supermarket" queue" for qualifying

Though he's willing to give it a go, Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene isn't convinced by new qualifying format.

The controversial new format, which, over the course of three phases, sees drivers eliminated one-by-one, until 'last man standing' takes pole, will be seen for the first time tomorrow. And whilst it doesn't now appear as though rain will add to what many are already predicting will be a confusing format, some are still anticipating fun and games.

Arrivabene, like many of us, is in the 'if it aint broke why fix it' camp, but is willing to give it a try.

"I don't want to be against any changes, Ferrari don't want to be against the change," said the Italian, "I simply think that maybe giving a bit more time to the team to work on ideas was better.

"The only certainty is that more probably tomorrow at the beginning of the qualifying we are going to see a line like on Saturday at the cashier of the supermarket - everybody wants to go out," he added. "Then we will see. It's not fair to criticize before that has happened."

Asked his views, McLaren boss Eric Boullier, said: "There is some upside and downside. The qualifying format we had before, I think we all agree, was a successful format. We were used to it.

"I think it is true that there will be more traffic at the beginning of each qualifying segment and there should be more unpredictability for the final result, but we will see."
