Vettel saddened by Red Bull - Renault split

NEWS STORY

The numerous titles seemingly forgotten, like a doomed marriage, day by day the relationship between Red Bull and Renault descends further and further into spite and rancour.

Whilst the Austrian team seeks a new partner, the French manufacturer is unsure even if it wants to remain in the sport, such is the hurt.

Sebastian Vettel, who won all four of his titles with the partnership, has admitted to being saddened at the way it is ending.

Obviously it's sad to hear because I was part of the majority of the partnership and we had very successful years which unfortunately gets forgotten very quickly," he told reporters at Singapore. "Renault did a fantastic job supplying us with a strong engine and supplying us with the latest technique that was required to be competitive when we had the era of blown exhausts. Renault's was probably the most advanced.

"There are a lot of things that Renault has achieved that people tend to forget," he added. "I hope they stay in the sport."

Of course, now sporting Ferrari red he is no longer part of that deteriorating marriage, though one wonders if he saw it coming, hence the leap to Maranello.

Though his title hopes effectively ended in Belgium, the German has no plans to ease up, insisting that it remains a case of maximum attack.

"The goal for the championship is maximum attack," he insisted. "We have to go for everything we can get.

"Obviously Nico is closer to us than to Lewis but as long as the chances are there we have to try and make anything possible that we can do.

"Being realistic Lewis is in a very good position," he concluded. "Our target is to be on the podium which is difficult as Mercedes have the strongest package at the moment and if nothing goes wrong they have two cars on the podium and there is not much space left, but we have been pretty good at getting our maximum and most of the time getting that last place."
