A Caterham clarification

NEWS STORY
19/11/2014

This morning (Wednesday) Pitpass has received an email from a senior employee at Caterham. We will not name him nor hint at his (senior) role in order that he cannot be identified.

"I write to you in discussed (sic) and anger at the two articles you have just released about Caterham," he writes. "I can assure you that both articles are full of errors and miss-truths.

"Caterham has made it to Abu Dhabi this weekend to show the world that we can make things happen in the hope to find a buyer so that +200 jobs can be saved, I feel your articles are damaging to this cause and that you are only aiding the people out there that want to finally kill us off.

"The article regarding car safety is at best sensationalizing half-truths no doubt to make it a story to sell to yourselves. I see this article as damaging to me especially at a time when I am looking for another job. I would be grateful if you would retract this article.

"I fear you are printing stories provided to you from people who only know half the facts and I assume that they are providing these stories out of revenge or to earn an easier buck, either way it is not helping those people at Caterham that are trying to save the team."

First off, Pitpass did not pay for these stories, nor did it pay, or even solicit, the various emails sent over the weekend following the news that 230 staff had been made redundant.

How sad, that just days after his former colleagues have been consigned to the dole, this senior employee is accusing them of being guided by revenge and the desire to make a quick buck.

Much of what we have been sent in the last few days we cannot publish - talk of aircrafts, boats, apartments, Rolls Royces and the like - but this is due to the legal implications. Should any of the claims prove accurate and totally factual we will be happy to report them… the truth needs to be out there.

The correspondent talks of trying to save the team yet admits to already seeking another job, fact is, his 229 colleagues also wanted to save the team but the situation was outside their control... it always was.

Whilst our correspondent demands that we "stop writing this B******T", might we suggest that instead of venting his rage at Pitpass and accusing former colleagues of disloyalty, he takes time out to direct his anger at those who actually created this sorry mess in the first place.

"Kiwi, fair point but not ALL "limey's are as you describe. There are always two sides to a story of course and as you have worked in CART long enough, there is all a considerable amount of Bull spoken, I am sure you will agree?

As for politicians, shall we not go there? UK, USA anywhere else they are nearly all the same. Besides its an old taboo but one forgotten on forum pages, that even when is company (and social media is company I guess?) two subjects to avoid are; politics and religion!

Two sides to a story and work is needed to move forwards, I guess thats all we can accept at the moment. "

"@ f1tech

Having worked in CART for 18 years with many, so-called F1 " superstars ", the one certainty is that a Limey will obfuscate, blatantly lie and grovel to cover their sorry a$$es when their failings / mistakes come to light.

Your indignant " rebuttal " is only worthy of an English politician..................trying to curry favour with some
other " suit ".

" Me thinks he doth protest too much.”"

"Why are the employees with so many gripes holding back - if you can name names, do so, and back it up with facts. I don't think there'll be many surprised by what comes out...."

"@ F1tech....

No we are not taking the word of one individual... we are not taking the word of two, but many.

Whilst the piece about the Caterham parts refers to one individual it was corroborated by others.

I repeat, your frustration and anger at the current situation is misplaced… vent it at those responsible for the mess."

"I am one of the now ex-employees from Caterham. You say "The truth needs to be out there" but you are taking one persons comments and publicising it as the truth without confirmation of its validity! The email you have just slated in this article is telling it how it is. I know how those wishbones were assembled, parts in F1 cars are sometimes salvaged, inspected / tested and re-used with a new 'life' assigned to them according to their condition, and what was stated in your previous article about parts 'skipping' inspection are untrue, the person you quoted obviously doesn't have all the facts, jumped to conclusions and relayed it to you as the truth, and you believed them! Also, the person you just slated for saying they're trying to save the team yet admits to looking for another job; a lot of people have been made redundant and are still trying to save the team, and part of being made redundant is having to look for alternative work in order to claim for certain benefits so that some of us don't lose our homes. Just because we're looking for alternative employment doesn't mean we are any less committed to saving the team, and you are hampering this effort. "

"Kudos to Pit Pass.

If more people would allow whistle blowers to tell the truth ( as Pit Pass has ) these parasites would not be able to get away with the $hit they do."

""Spilling the beans". I do not think anything has changed how and when people feel they want to "spill the beans" in the World, let alone F1 in the past few years other than the means of faster communication. Now everyone can say what they like, good bad or indifferent and as many who may follow the topic will know within seconds bad news. It took ten minutes for the World to know Princess Diana had been blown up (involved in a car crash sorry!) It will take another generation or two to get used to it and to be able to use the communication more effectively.

Forums are dangerous places in whatever sport, issues you may like to mention and in the case where many feel they have been let down, then its always going to be a place to vent anger I guess. The fact is within the sport, one would hope that there are systems in place to cope with the accusations and in this instance scrutineers will I am sure make the decision.

Anyone who has been following a certain person from Malaysia and available public records will see, yes there are quite clearly issues on how he went about things, how these can be proved to be detrimental may come out in time but its nothing new.

We all I am sure, or certainly those who want to do so, wish the Caterham team all the best for this weekend and sincerely hope a solution can be found. There is after all, always a solution."
