Victory for Mark Webber in the British Grand Prix was the highlight of the 2010 season, according to Jackie Stewart. Speaking exclusively with Pitpass in Abu Dhabi the triple World Champion says that Webber's drive to victory was demonstrative of the Australian's ability, courage and mental strength.

"I think Mark Webber," replied Sir Jackie when asked what he believes was the highlight of the year. "Having the enormous accident that he had in Valencia and then coming back and winning the next race.

"That was a big shunt," he continued, "I haven't seen anything much bigger than that. The impacts involved were huge, and it just didn't seem to faze him at all. This really showed what the man was all about."

Webber's performance at Silverstone, while "masterful", was just one highlight of what has been one of the best seasons the 71-year-old can recall. "It's been the best season we've had, probably since the late 60's. With so many drivers in contention, right down to the final race, which is a rarity, which such quality that we've had."

The accolades didn't end with the championship contenders either, Stewart believes several of the drivers have developed throughout the 2011 season to become truly world class. "Kubica's developed into one of the great drivers of the world now. Jenson Button was nearly there but not quite, while Schumacher and Rosberg have shown what they can do, and I think with a better car they'll do much better next year," he says. "The two Red Bull drivers have been fantastic, the two Ferrari drivers have been good, and the two McLaren drivers. I mean really, it's been an amazing cluster of really talented people."

When Pitpass spoke with Stewart earlier in the season he pleaded with us to remain calm in the wake of the Bore-rain Grand Prix, forecasting that 2010 was "going to be one of the most competitive seasons that we've had for a very long time."

The winner of 27 Grands Prix from 99 starts proved to be right.
