Kubica would welcome Raikkonen as teammate

Having signed up for a further two seasons at Renault, Robert Kubica has revealed that he would welcome 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen as a teammate.

Even though the Finn has refused to talk about a return to F1, there has been constant speculation about a possible return, with a number of teams, including Red Bull, linked to the former Sauber, McLaren and Ferrari man.

Asked by reporters if he would welcome Raikkonen as a teammate, Kubica admitted that he has no fears whoever his team partners him with.

"As I always say, I have no problems with my team mates," he said. "If Kimi will join us it will be very good. I think he is a great, talented driver.

"It might be very, very good to have a driver line-up with him," he continued, "but I don't know what the future will bring us and who will be my team mate next year. I think it's still too early to say."

Currently, Kubica is partnered by former GP2 star Vitaly Petrov, who despite his raw talent and flashes of inspiration has, thus far, failed to shine and certainly not given his Polish teammate a serious challenge. Meanwhile, despite some strong performances in the WRC, in which he races with the Citroen Junior Team, Raikkonen has also failed to shine.

While not wanting to disrespect his current teammate, Kubica admitted that he can see the sense in recruiting a driver of Raikkonen's calibre.

"It's much better, especially in current days, to have two good drivers in the team," he said. "Both drivers can help the team and help each other. Without testing, on Fridays where there is very limited time running if you have someone you can rely on for information, data and feedback it is much easier also for myself. There is no downside to having two strong drivers in the team."
