Valles linked with US F1 seat

Superleague driver Adrian Valles is being linked with the second seat at US F1

In spite of Peter Windsor's damning of F1 and American motorsport for not nurturing young American talent, his team looks set to sign a second non-American.

Having already secured the services of Jose Maria Lopez - his passage smoothed courtesy of assistance from the Argentine government - US F1 is now being linked with Spanish driver Adrian Valles.

While Valles is refusing to comment, speculation is building, especially with the American team due to run its car in a private test later this month.

Prior to winning the 2009 Superleague series - in which he represented Liverpool - Valles had raced in GP2 and the Le Mans Series. A previous winner of the Spanish F3 Championship, Valles was official test driver for Midland in 2006 and subsequently Spyker in 2007.

Should Valles get the US F1 it would bring the number of Spanish drivers on the 2010 grid to four. This compares with four Brazilians, six Germans and, er, no Americans.

The US F1 website proudly displays the names of the 45 American drivers who have raced in the Formula One World Championship since it began in 1950, sadly, the North Carolina outfit doesn't look likely to be adding to this number any time soon.
