Toyota denies Fuji reports

Toyota has denied reports that it is seeking to cancel the 2010 Japanese Grand Prix scheduled to take place at the company's Fuji Speedway.

Earlier today (Friday), Japan's Asahi Shimbun claimed that the Japanese giant, in an effort to cut costs, is seeking to end the agreement which sees Fuji host the Grand Prix on an alternate year-by-year basis with Suzuka, which is owned by Honda.

"We are making plans to host the race next year," a Toyota spokeswoman told the Associated Press.

The original claim regarding the Fuji event comes at a time when the Japanese giant, which earlier this year reported the first operating loss in its history, is said to be seriously considering its future in the sport.

Already under pressure to deliver the team's first win after eight seasons of racing, Toyota's form in Spain and Monaco took a severe nosedive. This, in addition to everything else, has led to fears that the company might use the budget cap row as an excuse to walk away from the sport.
