Toyota selling up?

NEWS STORY
29/05/2009

An on-line sale of Toyota F1 car parts has added to speculation over the Japanese team's future.

A press release issued on Thursday afternoon declared it to be an opportunity for F1 fans to "snap up a rare bargain", as the Cologne-based outfit offered for sale a whole range of 'collectables', including: carbon fibre wings, brakes and alloy wheels at prices ranging from 175 to 4,400.

"At the bargain end of the market there are wheels, brake discs and suspension parts from less than 200, while front and rear wing assemblies can be yours for between 700 and 2,000," read the release. " And if you want that ultimate desk accessory, a complete rear wing, engine cover and underbody section - virtually half a car - the asking price is just 4,400."

News of the 'sale' came just hours before Japan's Asahi newspaper reported that the Toyota Motor Corp may stop hosting the Japanese Grand Prix race at its Fuji International Speedway in an attempt to (further) cut costs.

The Fuji Speedway, which hosts the Japanese round of the World Championship in alternate years, was next due to host the F1 Grand Prix in 2010. This year's event takes place at the Suzuka Circuit, which is owned by the Honda Motor Co, which withdrew from F1 at the end of 2008.
