Super Aguri dismiss F1 return talk

NEWS STORY
11/05/2009

Super Aguri's co-owner, Fumio Akita, has denied media reports that the team is considering returning to F1 under the proposed budget cap system.

"There's absolutely no chance," Akita told Reuters. "Even without the world financial crisis and its effect on Japan's economy we couldn't afford it."

His comments follow reports that team boos Aguri Suzuki told Japan's Sankei Sports newspaper that he would like to return to F1 even though he considers the sport to be like being in a 'club full of piranhas'.

"We already pulled out once because we did not have the resources to continue," said Akita. "Even if we had $60 million to spend we would have to start from scratch again," he added, referring to the $60m (£40m) budget cap planned by the FIA.

"We don't know where these newspaper reports came from," he added, "but Aguri has also said there's no chance."

Super Aguri with drew from the 2008 World Championship just four races into the season, just seven months before Honda, which had helped bankroll the Japanese team, also withdrew from the sport.
