Amalgam celebrates Senna

NEWS STORY
01/05/2009

On May 1st, it will be exactly 15 years on from "The blackest day of Grand Prix Racing" as Murray Walker quite rightly described it - the untimely death of one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula One, the three time Formula One World Champion, Ayrton Senna on May 1st 1994

In honour of the legendary Brazilian, Amalgam is releasing limited edition 1:8 scale models of three of his cars, representing various stages in his illustrious career

The first is the Lotus 97T (above) which powered Ayrton to his first Grand Prix win in almost monsoon conditions in Estoril in 1985, leading second place by over a minute. The 97T was a simple design, but was very robust, powerful and fast, and featured an innovative piece of Lotus design, an early form of bargeboards.

Next is the McLaren MP4/4 (above), as raced to first and second place at the 1988 Japanese Grand Prix by Ayrton and team-mate, and sometimes bitter rival, Alain Prost respectively! The MP4/4 was the most dominant car in Formula One, outlined by the fact it took 15 wins from 16 races, 15 pole positions and 199 points in a single season!

The MP4/4s successes made all other cars seem almost ordinary, the 1988 F1 Season was an almost embarrassing walkover for McLaren, with 10 out of the 15 race wins being 1-2 finishes! The model is available in both driver versions!
