di Montezemolo clarifies Rome GP comments

NEWS STORY
05/03/2009

Following media claims that he is against the concept of a Rome GP, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo made the following statement in an attempt to set the record straight.

"The project of a Formula 1 GP in Rome has prompted different opinions and from my side also doubts. If the costs of this event were completely absorbed by private sponsors, which might be possible after I've spoken to Bernie Ecclestone today, I think that it could be interesting to carry out a feasibility study.

"Furthermore, due to its particularity this race should not be a competitor to excellent standing circuits such as the Autodromo in Monza," he continued. "Anyway we would have to examine how we could include the race in the race calendar, because there are many emerging countries, which want to host a GP race.

"If the Grand Prix will be raced in Rome Ferrari will prepare itself in the best possible way, starting with... frequenting the EUR very soon, because we'll want to arrive first."
