Mixed emotions for Honda's Brazilian hopefuls

NEWS STORY

Despite the absence of anything official there are mixed emotions in Brazil as speculation over the former Honda F1 team continues.

Be it sponsors, owners, drivers, engine suppliers, livery or number of redundancies, hardly an hour passes by without some form of scoop courtesy of a highly placed source.

While there is still no official word on the future of the Brackley team, one driver appears to have given up all hope of a 2009 F1 seat while another is hoping for an 11th-hour re-call.

Speaking to Sao Paulo's O Estado newspaper, Bruno Senna - who only a couple of weeks ago, so we were informed, was at the heart of a Honda bid by a group of Brazilian sponsors - admits to being "upset" at seemingly losing out on a drive this year.

"I'm kind of resigned to trying something else," said the youngster. "I had a meeting with Ross Brawn and he cancelled. I'm just a little upset because this situation has dragged on for so long, making me lose better professional possibilities. Now I'm going to get together with my family, with my advisors, and decide what way to take."

However, it was all smiles as Rubens Barrichello is concerned - even though just a short time ago he appeared to be totally out of the running and was said to be considering a career in the United States... hell, he'd even taken to playing in Pro-Am golf tournaments.

While nothing has been signed, far from it, Barrichello could well line up on the 2009 grid with his old teammate Jenson Button, though despite reports that his F1 future has been secured he refuses to take anything for granted.

"I've lived four months of waiting and I'm not going to celebrate before crossing the finish line," said the F1 veteran. "My faith says that next week I'll be driving a competitive car in the tests in Barcelona, although I have no document in my hands that assures me of that."

Meanwhile, according to Pitpass' source, "there are 17 days to shutdown and still nobody knows what is happening re buyout, jobs etc".

What was that about mushrooms... keeping them in the dark and feeding them bulls**t?
