Mosley likely to stand for re-election

Max Mosley has admitted that he is likely to stand for re-election as FIA President later this year.

Although many will not be surprised by the news, other will be, especially in light of last year's sex scandal which rocked the sport and threatened to destroy the man.

Almost a year later, and despite earlier claims that he might stand down, Mosley admits the he is probably going to stand for a fifth term, claiming to have received encouragement from many within the sport.

"When a lot of people say 'you should stay', it would be sort of churlish not to," he said earlier today, according to the Daily Telegraph. "At the moment they are saying that and it's very flattering. I'm conscious that a decision has to be made, probably at the meeting of the FIA World Council at the end of June."

While speculation continues as to who might stand against him - with former Ferrari boss Jean Todt and McLaren's Ron Dennis both being suggested as possibles - Mosley was quick to put down rumours linking disgraced Royal Bank of Scotland boss Sir Fred Goodwin with the job, whilst taking another swipe at a certain (un-named) Scotsman.

"Last week Sir Fred called me to say it was all nonsense. He was obviously rather embarrassed," revealed Mosley.

"The interesting thing is where it could have come from," he continued. "It has to be someone with some kind of connection to F1. He's got to have some connection with Scotland. He's got to have no understanding of how F1 or the FIA work, and he has to be unusually stupid...

"There's at least one person who ticks all those boxes," he added.
