Theissen insists, no driver announcement imminent

Despite increasing speculation as to his team's line-up for 2009, BMW team boss Mario Theissen has once again said that no announcement will be made until later in the year, once the season is over.

"At the end of the season we will announce our driver pairing for the coming season," he said yesterday.

"There has been a lot of speculation regarding this issue in recent weeks," he continued, "and at Monza new rumours were circulating in the paddock. Nonetheless, we won't take part in all this fuss but will simply take our time in making our decision."

While sections of the media continue to link the German team with Fernando Alonso, Theissen talked of the 'one that got away', former Formula BMW Germany champion, Sebastian Vettel.

Speaking outside the Toro Rosso motorhome following Vettel's superb win at Monza, a victory which was clearly popular with Theissen - and many others within the paddock - the BMW boss said of his former test driver, who made his F1 race debut with the team; "I would like to have every winner in my car".

Reflecting on the move to the Faenza-based squad, a result of long-term ties with [sponsor) Red Bull, Theissen said: "It's been the perfect move for Sebastian to come here for a few years in order to develop without too much pressure. I think he will do very well in the future.

"A year ago it wasn't possible to put him in our car, he was very inexperienced and you cannot gamble," Theissen continued. "It was much more important to give him the chance to develop in a team like this and he will do that for a few years and then we will see. He is so young, he can do a lot."
