Horner on borrowed time at Red Bull?

NEWS STORY
31/08/2008

While Red Bull is one of the few teams to have confirmed its driver line-up for 2009, there is speculation that there may well be other staff changes before next year.

As the Milton Keynes based outfit attempts to make up ground on its rivals, not least sister team Toro Rosso, a reliable source has informed Pitpass that team boss Christian Horner has been warned that should the team fail to finish in the Top Five in the Constructors' Championship he's out of a job.

Mistakes, poor reliability and the shortcomings of the Renault powerplant have seen the Austrian team fail to score a single point in the last four races as it loses ground to Toyota and Renault, while falling into the clutches of Williams.

The ever improving form of Toro Rosso has not helped the situation, nor has Mark Webber's public criticism of the team, or indeed talk of a "bust up" in Valencia last week involving Adrian Newey and Geoff Willis.

Consequently, it is understood that Horner has been told, get us a result or else.

Quite who would take over from Horner is unclear, however, talk of David Coulthard taking the reigns seems wide of the mark. Some might suggest Helmut Marko, but many believe the Austrian to be one of the main causes of ongoing friction within the outfit.
