Hamilton's German GP wining engine is taken by FIA

NEWS STORY
25/07/2008

You'd have to read right through to Page 13 of the FIA's Technical Delegate Report for the German GP to find the note... "The engine of car number 22 is kept sealed in order to carry out further checks according to Article 5 of the 2008 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. These checks will be done before the Hungarian GP."

However it's nothing sinister, merely the fact that Lewis Hamilton's race winning engine at Hockenheim is the first powerplant to be inspected this year to ensure that it fully complies with the current regulations, most notably the freeze on all engine development. Under FIA regulations, a random test on a powerplant provided by each of the six manufacturers takes place to ensure that no modifications have been made.

The checking process has begun late this year, but it is understood that this is due to the fact that the FIA is introducing more stringent testing apparatus.

Hamilton's German GP winning Mercedes powerplant was the same unit used to help the Englishman to victory at Silverstone two weeks earlier.
