No action taken over Barrichello incident

Race Stewards in Monaco have decided to take no further action following an incident in yesterday's qualifying session involving Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella.

The Italian claimed to have been held up by the Honda driver when he was on his final flying lap. "My first run was not great," admitted the Force India driver, "but the second was better but then I lost the chance to do a quick lap as I got caught behind Barrichello just after the swimming pool as he was slowing down. It was very, very frustrating."

Consequently, Fisichella, who already face a five-place grid penalty, failed to improve his time and qualified last, his worst position of the season to date.

Having met with both drivers and viewing video evidence of the incident the stewards opted to take no further action.

A brief statement read: "The Stewards received a report from the Race Director which stated that an accident involving car no 17 and car no 21 during Qualifying 1 may have resulted in the latter being impeded. The Stewards after hearing the explanation of both the Competitors representatives and the drivers decided that the incident required no further action."
