NASCAR Champion Johnson out of RoC

NEWS STORY
11/12/2006

Team USA Race of Champions driver, and 2006 NASCAR Champion, Jimmy Johnson, will not compete in the forthcoming event in Paris.

Johnson fell out of a golf cart while playing in a celebrity golf tournament, and broke his left wrist.

However, we understand he will still be going to Paris, as a "consultant".

The news of Johnson's withdrawal comes on the same days that Jenson Button revealed that he too will miss the event.

The injury occurred on Friday at a tournament in Lecanto, Florida. "I was in a golf cart and the driver took a sharp turn," said Johnson in a statement. "I wasn't holding on tight enough, landed awkwardly on the ground and heard a little pop.

"It was a fluke deal," he added, "but fortunately we're in the off-season and I don't plan to miss any additional time."

Johnson, along with Jeff Gordon and Colin Edwards, won the Race of Nations Nations Cup in 2002.
