The drama continues

NEWS STORY
06/08/2006

Speaking following yesterday's qualifying session, Michael Schumacher was clearly angry at the 2s penalty he had been given for overtaking two cars under red flags.

Speaking to reporters, the seven-time World Champion told them to check out the TV pictures and judge for themselves.

Though the German refused to name names, the TV pictures show the Ferrari driver passing Robert Kubica and Fernando Alonso. Asked if Alosno had slowed deliberately, Schumacher smiled and told reporters: "I did not say that... you said that."

The on-board footage, seen from Kubica's BMW, appears to show Alonso deliberately slowing, causing the Pole, running right behind him, to slow also. Schumacher passes both cars, quite slowly on the right hand side.

Whatever said and done, passing under red flags - at any speed - is illegal, however, one cannot help but feel that Alonso was totally ware of what he was doing, especially at a time when it looked as though he had handed the Hungarian GP to his rival on a plate, following his own misdemeanours on Friday.

All of which adds to the drama surrounding what is usually a snooze-fest, but this year promises to be a scintillating race.
