Laguna Seca Preview: Team Germany

NEWS STORY
06/03/2006

After A1 Team Germany claimed its best result of the season last time out in Mexico with fourth place, Willi Weber's team is filled with confidence heading into the tenth race of the season between 10 and 12 March in Laguna Seca. Timo Scheider will once again be at the wheel of the 520 hp A1 Grand Prix racer at the Californian race track.

"We fought our way through the field from twelfth on the grid to fourth in Mexico, after the team made an excellent pit stop", says Timo Scheider looking back. "Owing to the unique concept of the A1 Grand Prix series with its identical race cars and the ‘PowerBoost' function which gives a brief 30 hp power increase the race result is always impossible to call." Building on this performance parity A1 Team Germany wants to exploit its racing savvy on the traditionally demanding Laguna Seca circuit. The track, opened in 1958, with its eleven corners and unique layout winding through the hillside is one of the world's most popular circuits. "I've always wanted to race at Laguna Seca and now I have the chance", explains the expectant 27-year old A1 Team Germany race driver. "Some of the sections are blind because of the roller-coaster nature of the track, and the famous Corkscrew certainly numbers among the greatest challenges to be found in motorsport."

Timo Scheider makes his final outing for A1 Team Germany on the
3.6 kilometre circuit in the United States of America. The Austrian domiciled German will contest the DTM from April onwards as Audi works driver. "It goes without saying that I'm fully motivated and want to give the team a race to remember. Maybe we'll be a little better than last time and finally finish on the podium", said Scheider of his plans.

"The final dash, which we had planned for the last three races started well in Mexico", emphasised Willi Weber. "Timo and David Sears' race team showed that they can mix it with the front runners when everything is perfect. Timo will want to prove just how good he is on such a demanding circuit as Laguna Seca and has every chance of signing off in great style."
