Davidson's big day

NEWS STORY
13/09/2005

Today could be one of the most important in young Anthony Davidson's life.

The Englishman will today drive the Jordan at Silverstone as the team looks ahead to 2006, when it will contest the Formula One World Championship as Midland F1.

Davidson has spent the last couple of years as test driver with BAR, but has made no secret of the fact that it is racing rather than testing that he really wants to do.

As the Button saga rumbles on, and on, Davidson, who could find himself consigned to another year as BAR test driver should Jenson remain at Brackley, knows that he must consider all other options, which remain slim at the best of times.

Therefore, today, Davidson will drive the Jordan at Silverstone, under the watchful eyes of Sporting Director Adrian Burgess, and Sporting Relations Manager Johnny Herbert.

"I'm really looking forward to testing with the Jordan team," he said ahead of the test, "the EJ15 will be a new challenge. I haven't driven at Silverstone for almost a year so it will be good to be back driving on my home track again.

"This test shows how serious I am about finding a race drive for next year, I'm hoping it will be a very positive experience for myself and the Jordan team."

Formula Nippon and Super GT Series driver, Sakon Yamamoto will drive the EJ15 on Wednesday and Thursday, in readiness for next month's Japanese Grand Prix, when he will be the team's third driver in Friday free practice.

Many of the F1 teams will be testing this week at Silverstone and Jerez, as the 2005 season reaches its climax.

Of the agreed 30-day allocation of test days during the 2005 season, Jordan has 17 remaining, while Sauber has 9, McLaren (4), WilliamsF1 (4), Renault (4), Red Bull (7), BAR (5), Toyota (3) and Minardi (14).

Ferrari has tested for 69 days since the F1 season began, on several occasions at two circuits simultaneously.
